Hey folks, Harry here... LOS OTROS was filming in Madrid when I was there last year, but I never came across the set while there. But now thanks to this special LATIN AICN report from our newly discovered Spanish Spy CARLOS... you have the skinny and the slim on some pics... the first that I recall seeing... though my memory is often times awful. I've heard great things about this film... and we're sure to hear more via both Euro-AICN and Latin-AICN... Both of which give us all the jones we need!
Hi Harry, I have for you some words from Alejandro Amenábar about "Los otros"(The others): But first of all I want to apologize in advance for my nasty English.
"It´s a drama with horror elements. It happens in 1945, just after the end of WWII, in the british island of Jersey. There lives a woman (Kidman) trapped in a house with his children, because the children suffers from an extrange disease that don´t let them be touched by the sunlight. The action begins when three men arrives to the island to work for her. The movie plays very much with th e things that you can´t see. It also have only a few elements, this makes the movie more intense, it´s good for having an hipnotic effect. The characters are very complex, but everything comes from very simple things.
The movie is shot in english, there was not another way to do it, and the story is very anglosaxon too.The langage wasn´t the problem that I thought, the real challenge was working with children, but everything went great..
There´s inspiration from all the horror movies I´ve seen thorugh the years, since "The exorcist" to "Alien", and also from directors very different between them, like Victor Erice or Steven Spielberg. Kidman is the best proffesional I´ve ever worked with. It has been a very intense work for both. She gave a lot to the character, she´s very intelligent and disciplined. She never was late and she never shout anyone.The fact that she´s a star is important for the producers, beause the security and that kind of staff, I didn´t have any preassure. The movie is now edited. Now we´re going to the states to show the final cut to Tom Cruise and Nicole. Right now I´m writing the musical score."
About the budget I must say that this will be one of the biggest movies of our cinema. But Amenabar and Kidman wanted the movie to look simple. The rights for the american versions of the previous Amenabar films ("Tesis" and "Abre los ojos"/Open your eyes) are owned by Tom Cruise´s production company.
