Well folks, Harry here and yet again we hear a lack of passion for ATLANTIS and unbridled excitement over LILO & STITCH... sigh... Ya know, I want ATLANTIS to work so bad it hurts. I saw the trailer in a theater tonight with THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE and that trailer just kicks booty hard. I have my fingers crossed... let's hope...
Hey Harry, I have some friends who are working deep inside the bowels of Disney and they relayed some information regarding "Atlantis".
Supposedly it's been testing very wishy-washy with test audiences as well as with the Disney animators themselves. I've been told that the animators think it's too "New Agey"(as I was directly told) and that they really don't have high hopes for it.
It's a shame because all the concept art was done by "Hellboy" creator and artist Mike Mignola, and it really shows. I was lucky enough to see some model sheets and can tell you some of the characters he designed translated very well, and you can see elements of that in the trailer (His infamous squared off fingers!) as well as in the vehicle and background design.
On a different note, Disney has VERY high hopes for Lilo and Stitch and it has been the praise of Disney animators for awhile now. They're saying this is the film that's going to bring back the animated feature in a BIG way. I wish I could convey to you the excitement t hat is running through the studio over that film.
Anyway, here's hoping Atlantis is going to be good anyway...at least we have Mignola designs to look forward too.
