Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now this is really cool news. Drew Goddard has had so many near-misses since he kicked so much ass with Cabin in the Woods. His fantastic screenplays have gotten some play (The Martian), but he's finally getting behind the camera again with Bad Times at the El Royale, which is currently in pre-production with Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges attached.
Right after he finishes that film up he'll be rolling straight into X-Force for Fox, says Deadline. He's been working on it, has cracked the story and will be the writer/director for it as soon as he puts El Royale to bed.
That's such a good match of vision and material, especially since Deadpool will be heading up the mutant team. And he won't be alone. Comic legend (and Deadpool's daddy) Rob Liefeld took to twitter to say that both Cable and Domino will be joining Wade on this adventure.
I love that Fox is putting Deadpool front and center of their stuff now. He's their new Wolverine and that's fucking crazy and awesome to me. Fox on the whole is doing some interesting things with their X-films. Logan was a fantastic departure, Deadpool did its own thing and now they have Goddard's X-Force and Josh Boone's New Mutants in the works and they both appear to be doing different things with familiar superheroes.
It's a weird day when their standard X-films are the least interesting thing on the lineup.
