Deadpool director Tim Miller to tackle William Gibson's cyberpunk novel NEUROMANCER!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Deadline is reporting that William Gibson's Neuromancer is finally on track to the big screen after many attempts over the years.

Deadpool director Tim Miller is lined up to direct for Fox and producer Simon Kingberg.

Now, this is early days, so it's no guarantee that we'll actually see Neuromancer move into production. There's no screenwriter yet, the source material is weird as fuck and Miller is very busy. First and foremost he's at the head of the new Terminator series that James Cameron wants to produce and is working shoulder to shoulder with Cameron on that.

Obviously Terminator has to be the priority, but I can't imagine that Miller would have signed on to Neuromancer if he wasn't passionate about William Gibson's work and if the eventual script that's turned in kicks ass then it'd be hard for him to not find the time to do it.

The book's story takes place in a dystopian world where you plug directly into a "virtual reality dataspace" (this was written in 1984, basically predicting the internet as it would come to be) and one notorious hacker is caught stealing from his employer and is punished by being poisoned to an extent that he can't plug in anymore. That sets him down a grimey, gritty cyberpunk road that involves cybernetic augmentation and maybe even a weird love story.

It's very much a Matrix-y story. Miller might be able to pull it off, but he's going to have to have a great script. What do you folks think?
