Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. THR is reporting that Neil Marshall's reboot of Hellboy for Lionsgate has found their kindly, adoptive father figure in Ian McShane.
Professor Broom was played note-perfectly by John Hurt in Guillermo del Toro's films and Ian McShane cast in this capacity is an interesting move that I think might tip the hat a little bit to the tone that Marshall's going to strike. McShane can play good guy, of course, but even his good guys have a bit of a dark undercoat.
Marshall's not exactly known for lighthearted stories and definitely hasn't shown a propensity for the fairy tale look that del Toro loved so much. I imagine this Hellboy will be darker, grittier and a bit more abrasive than Guillermo's films were.
The THR story says that production will begin shortly, with a likely September shoot date in the cards. They're fast-tracking this one.
