Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Legendary sent out a press release this evening announcing something pretty damn cool: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's Zhang Ziyi will be joining their self-described "Monsterverse," first appearing in the now-filming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, directed by Michael Dougherty.
Naturally, the press release dances around specifics, but they do say that Ziyi will be a key figure in Monarch, the big mysterious organization being set up between all of Legendary's big monster franchises.
We know that Dougherty's King of the Monsters already has a great cast (including Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Bradley Whitford and the returning Ken Watanabe) and is in production as we speak. We also know that the next film up is Kong v Godzilla, directed by Adam Wingard and we know that in Dougherty's film they're likely going to be introducing a shit ton of classic monsters, like Mothra and Ghidorah.
The casts are great, the directors are interesting... let's hope these big monster spectaculars stick their landing and deliver some really great, geeky cool shit.
