Mike Mignola announces an R-rated HELLBOY reboot directed by Neil Marshall and starring Stranger Things' David Harbour!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now this is a big, crazy out of left field announcement. It seems we're getting a rebooted Hellboy movie. Hellboy's real life daddy, Mike Mignola, announced that there will be a new Hellboy movie, it will be rated R, directed by Neil Marshall and will star Stranger Things' David Harbour as Hellboy.

This comes pretty quickly on the heels of Guillermo del Toro trying to get his Hellboy 3 off the ground. You may remember he launched a social media campaign to show the powers that be that the interest was there. He got enough of a response to gather Mignola, himself and Ron Perlman together to hash out a game plan for their push for H3 only to announce that the three didn't agree and the project was dead.

Mignola was the hold out and now we maybe see why.

He announced the reboot on his Facebook page and it certainly comes as a big shock.

I'm torn on this because the idea of a Neil Marshall directed R-rated Hellboy movie gets me pretty damn giddy, but Guillermo put so much heart and soul into his films I find it a bit of a bummer we'll never get to see the end of the cinematic story he was telling. When you rewatch Hellboy 2 it's clear he's setting things up for a rather dark conclusion and I really wanted to see that played out.

Harbour will make a great Hellboy, I'm sure. He was a finalist for Cable in Deadpool, so I guess he's owed an iconic tough guy comic book character... But again, Ron Perlman was just about as perfect casting in that part as you can get. It's going to be a tough road for Harbour to fill that big red stone hand.

There was precious little info given about the circumstances of this reboot. Will it be live action or animated? Is there a new studio involved? What storyline will this new movie follow? All unknown at this point, but we do know that Mignola is involved and he's got two very interesting people attached.

How do you guys feel about this development?
