Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Fantastic Beasts 2 is moving forward and they have cast a new Dumbledore. Warner Bros announced the news this morning that Jude Law will be stepping into the robes previously inhabited by Michael Gambon and Sir Richard Harris, playing the young(er) version of Albus Dumbledore.
This will place Dumbledore in a time period before he was headmaster at Hogwarts. JK Rowling (who wrote the first script and has already penned this one) has stated before that Dumbledore has a rather close relationship with Gellert Grindelwald, the dark wizard at the heart of this prequel series. He's essentially proto-Voldemort.
Interestingly enough, Rowling has said in the past that Dumbledore and Grindelwald were lovers at some point. I'm not sure how much of that will make its way into the movie, but even if it's just hinted at that adds a whole different, fascinating dimension to this rivalry.
Law's a great actor. I don't immediately see him as Dumbledore in my mind's eye, but he's got the charisma to pull it off. What do you folks think?
