Greetings, citizens! ROBOGEEK here, bright and early, passing along this year's Golden Globe nominations. (Because there are so damned many of them, I'm posting the TV nominees separately in Coaxial News.)
The awards will be presented Sunday, January 21, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and broadcast live on NBC.
Leading the count this year with five nominees each are GLADIATOR and TRAFFIC, while four films garnered four nominations apiece: ALMOST FAMOUS, CHOCOLAT, ERIN BROCKOVICH and WONDER BOYS (yay!). All I can say is, where the hell is CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON for Best Picture?!?! (Someone in Talk Back tells me the HFPA has some stupid rule that prevented its eligibility in that category; at least both the L.A. and Toronto critics had the sense to name it Best Picture.)
Most interesting this year is that uber-cool Steven Soderbergh is competing against himself in the Best Director and Best Drama categories. (But given he directed the deliriously groovy SCHIZOPOLIS, he should be up for the challenge.)
Anyway, the nominees are...
