Aw, Crap. Hellboy 3 is dead, says Guillermo del Toro.

My sentiments exactly, big guy.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some disappointing news. You may remember that Guillermo del Toro rallied all Hellboy fans via Twitter a little while back, saying that if the response was big enough he'd gather Mike Mignola, Ron Perlman and himself together to see if they wanted to mount one more full scale assualt on the nervous studio system to try to get Hellboy 3, the final part of their planned trilogy, finally off the ground.

Well, that meeting happened and it doesn't look like they're going to do it.

I know Perlman was on board and Guillermo was game and I'm pretty sure Mignola likes what they've done with the movie so far, but maybe the fight was too big, the mountain too steep, to get their hopes up again and pouring hundreds of hours into work that will likely never see the light of day.

You have to remember that it's not up to these guys. If they could greenlight it, we would have had Hellboy 3 already. It's up to the bean-counters and the money these movies have made just doesn't get someone in a suit excited enough to risk another $100 million on a sequel.

It sucks. I would have loved to have seen the surely bittersweet ending these guys had in store for us, but the silver lining to this is that we'll likely be getting more original work from them instead.

What do you folks think?
