The Peter Jackson produced MORTAL ENGINES casts its lead!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh have spent their post-Hobbit time hard at work on adapting Philip Reeve's dystopian sci-fi adventure series MORTAL ENGINES for their longtime collaborator and friend Christian Rivers to direct.

Development has been going on this project for years, actually, with all those talented folks down in New Zealand designing this world and filming must be close to happening now that they're starting to cast up.

According to Variety, Robert Sheehan has been cast in the lead role of Tom Natsworthy, the young man at the center of this story about a future where the Earth is stripped of its resources and the remaining cities are built on wheels, roaming the land and attacking other cities for their resources.

Oddly Sheehan seems to be drawn to movies with Mortal in their title, having played a role in both The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones as well as being attached to a movie called Mortal to be directed by Trollhunter and Autopsy of Jane Doe's Andre Ovredal.

Also cast in a smaller, unannounced part was Ronan Raftery, who had a part in Fantastic Beasts.

The story sounds cool, Rivers has been groomed by Peter Jackson for years and with the design team of Weta behind him I think they could make something quite cool here. What do you folks think?
