More Casting On REIGN OF FIRE!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

It always amuses me how things time out. I was at a party tonight, and I bumped into someone I know online but have never met face to face before. We start talking about different things, different films, and REIGN OF FIRE comes up. He tells me what he knows about it, I tell him what I know. He settles the matter once and for all as to whether Arnold Schwarzenegger is the bad guy in the film as reported by the Irish press --which he is not-- and starts telling me how he thinks it sounds like a pretty cool film. He describes it as an ALIENS-intensity adventure movie, bordering in some ways on horror. He compared it to DAWN OF THE DEAD in the sense that most of the film takes place in an environment where people are trapped, where they've made a microcosm of the world for themselves while they wait on the menace outside to make a move. And the menace he described, the dragons, sounds pretty cool. "They're like locusts. They go away, vanish, for eons at a time, and when they wake up, they just ride across the surface of the earth like a plague. They killed the dinosaurs, and now it's our turn." It sounds like something I'm going to need to read very soon. Sure would make a good addition to the bag for that long trip to Australia next week. Anyway, I get home from the party, and I see THIS STORY by Zorianna Kit of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER:

"LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Poland-born Izabella Scorupco, on screen in "Vertical Limit," is in final negotiations to star for director Rob Bowman in "Reign of Fire," an action-adventure feature for the Walt Disney Co. and studio-based Spyglass Entertainment. The project is scheduled to begin shooting in February in the United Kingdom. Scorupco would join a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale. She would play a pilot and Bale's love interest. "Fire" is set in England and centers on a brood of fire-breathing dragons that establish dominance over the planet after they emerge from underground and begin setting fire to everything."

Based on what I heard from my friend tonight, I'm dying to see how this thing comes together. I'm rooting for Rob Bowman here. As soon as I know more, I promise I'll pass it along. 'Till then...

"Moriarty" out.
