This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Futuristic Cowboys, Alien Ladies, Stoners, and Scares!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's selection of fun short films from across the globe. This week is another grab bag of awesomeness as each film is drastically different from one another. If you're in the mood for terror, good as I've got a little bit of spook lined up. If you're looking for an awkward laugh... I've go that as well. If you're looking for a film you've likely not seen yet, well I'd hope to deliver given the bulk of these have either just hit the interwebs or haven't made the rounds just yet. At any rate, I just hope everyone out there's had a good week and are down to kick their feet up and soak in some interesting stories created by passionate filmmakers. So without further ado, let's get this show on the road!

WHERE THE SHADOWS FALL

TRT: 13:36

Kate Phillips has our first film of the week, premiering her film over on the DUST Youtube Channel. "In a sparce post-apocolyptic world a man's grief leads him on a path towards danger and disappointment." I'm a sucker for sexy designs, interesting set decorations, and clearly... good performances. Phillips has all of that and then some in this 13 minute of future fun. With gorgeous landscapes and man whose backstory I feel is glimpsed at just right - with me wanting to know more, but also not being beaten over the head with exposition - I very much hope to see what Phillips does next. Be sure to check out her website and if you're hoping to fulfill your short film itch on days that aren't SATURDAY - scope out the setup on the DUST Youtube Channel. I hope they continue to nab films on par with Kate's!

THE GIRLFRIEND

TRT: 6:58

Director Luke Mayze is back with a comedy based around an already awkward situation, bringing your new girlfriend to dinner with your parents. That's all I'll say before going into this one. If you like what you see here, then check out more of Luke's projects on Vimeo!

FRIENDLIES

TRT: 5:26

Steve Kopera has our next film, a short that's as simple as it is fun, one I find very charming. "Gabe lives a solitary existence. He enjoys his computer engineering, his frozen three-cheese ziti, his shiraz, and his complete action figure set from 'The Tick'. Yet, nothing gives him more joy than staring into the expanse of space through his beloved telescope. On clear, cold nights, Gabe spends hours searching the constellations. On this fateful night, through, Gabe discovers much more than solitary bodies, gaseous nebulas, and fiery comets." For more infor on the short, check out its Facebook Page!

THE FIRST MEN

TRT: 13:27

Director Benjamin Kegan has our next short, a film that draws you in almost immediately and takes you to places you likely don't expect going in. Well, at least I thought that as this isn't the type of film I typically lean towards. That said, it grabbed my attention from the getgo and didn't let go until the credits popped up. Bravo, Kegan! "A trip to the mall with mom does not go as planned for a high school teacher after she crosses paths with some of her students. A short film based on the short story by Stacey Richter." Check out Benjamin's website to see what else the guy's got going on!

TOC TOC

TRT: 00:14

That's right, a first for SATURDAY SHORTS - a short that's literally 14 seconds long. Diego Latorre's a talented filmmaker, as showcased in his film BLINK. I personally just found this as a fun jolt to the system on our way out for the week. I'm a fan of Diego's and can't wait to see what he does next - hopefully something a little longer! (I kid.) Check out his website for more info on the man!

POW! That's it for this week's picks, ladies and gents. I hope you had some fun, saw something interesting and... ultimately just enjoyed the lineup. I'll see you all next week, tpyos and all, with another handful of films I think are pretty cool. It also looks like I'll be posting a little bit more than usual during this next week, with "exclusive clips" and a few interviews, so look out. If you're interesting in watching a few more films, then check out any of the links below to see past articles!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
