This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Little Red Riding Hood's Revenge, Demons, and Psychotic Children!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here on this lovely Sunday afternoon with a full lineup of rather cool shorts. I think it's safe to assume everyone out there's had a pretty kickass weekend thus far (I hope!), and to add on to your already cool weekend I've got a handful of short films that will throw you into situations you likely won't ever see yourselves in. Short films allow us that little slice of fantasy, a full story that doesn't demand you block off a few hours for the journey. Clearly I'm a movie fan, big and small / feature and short, so I'm always on the hunt to find a film that can take me out of my world and drop me in the middle of something truly epic, like another world, another time, another dimension... Today's shorts do just that, they pluck you from being just a regular badass at a computer and toss you into various situations that you'll likely never find yourself otherwise (unless you've already experienced werewolves/home invasions/psycho roomates from hell already). "Muldoon... dude, we get it. Let's just start watching some shorts, eh? Oh yeah, and it's Sunday btw..." Point taken. Let's do this!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

RED

TRT: 13:53

Director Jasper ten Hoor blows the roof off with our first film. Hoor created this film in The Nederlands back in 2013 with a group of students. It's played numerous festivals and rightly so, as it takes a story we're all familiar with and pushes pat the ending we're used to. It's kind of like HOOK in that sense, as it features an imaginative aftermath of "Little Red Riding Hood with PTSD." "The terrifying events in her past are still haunting Red Riding Hood (Sophie van Winden) as an adult. She then decides to take matters into her own hands and face her greatest fears." It's nicely shot, with great wardrobe, and an engaging story. If you like what you see, then check out Hoor's website or the film's Facebook page for more info and to see what Jasper's got next!

LARRY GONE DEMON

TRT: 14:25

SATURDAY SHORTS vet Mathew John Lawrence is back with another kickass short, this time featuring the turmoil of dealing with a rather shitty roommate. "A frenetic, punk-rock nightmare centering on one asshole of a roommate." This film is... full of "WTF?" in the best ways possible, drastically different than Mathew's previous films - yet still at a quality I've come to expect from him. He's currently working on his feature film project, BLOODY AXE WOUND, which looks wildly interesting. I'm a fan of the guy and can't wait to see what he does with the feature, in fact if you're as curious as I am - he's already got a site up and running to provide more info on what he's got cooking. Check out the BLOODY AXE WOUND website for info on that film, but also be sure to poke around his Vimeo Page as it's full of his work!

VISITORS PARKING

TRT: 13:30

Director Daud Sani has our next film, a lovely reminder of how not to get yourself stuck in a bad spot. You might remember Sani's FIRST SIGHT that I was able to screen here, a short about a subway purse snatcher. Daud's back and brings with him actor Evan Williams as a man who's kind of screwed due to his own choices. "Narrowly escaping before the husband of his married lover arrives home, Peter finds himself locked in a parking garage." I'm a fan of Daud's and am always excited to see what he's up to, and if you enjoy VISITORS PARKING as much as I, click over to his Retina Cam Productions site and his personal site as well!

GRAVE DANGER

TRT: 1:06

In the mood for some Fun Size Horror? Good, becuase that's what Patrick Rea has next for us, a quick short that I won't spoli for you. It's a nougat of a film that's short, twisted, and oddly satisfying.  Check out more of Patrick's Fun Size Horror!

INTRUDER

TRT: 10:01

Brian McQuery has our last film of the week, a short that'll send shivers down your back, shivers of uneasiness and frustration. Brian's assembled a rather incredible cast with Jasmine Jessica Anthony, Heather Langenkamp, Dean Cameron, and Christopher Nelsonto help tell his story. This film is all too real to so many folks out there, and does a damn fine job at throwing you into the shoes of an addict's loved one. "When an addict shows up at her parents' house in the middle of the night, her Mother reluctantly lets her in to stay the night, but is she helping her daughter or contributing to the problem?" I very much look forward to seeing what Brian directs next!

BOOM! There we have it, ladies and gents - another interesting lineup of films from all over. In an ideal world, everyone who clicks on to SATURDAY SHORTS will enjoy each and every film I have the opportunity to screen, but realistically I just hope you had fun and caught something you just wouldn't have otherwise. Filmmaking isn't easy - it requires an insane amount of passion and just the fact that these stories exist due to a person who set their mind to something and pushed it into being... that's pretty cool. I'll see you all a week from now with another selection of shorts that I think are worth your viewing time. While I clearly hope to post next Saturday ("Saturday Shorts"), bear with me as my schedule is a little out of control and will be for a few more months. That's not really an excuse as much as "Gah! There's quite a few plates I'm spinning and it's realistic that in the next few months I drop a few, then immediately will have the time required not to... drop plates." Adios folks, have a great week doing something you hopefully love. Check out past articles below!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
