Fox nabs Karyn Kusama for creepy kid thriller BREED!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Confession time: I'm probably the only horror-loving critic/blogger/geek type that thought Karyn Kusama's The Invitation was just okay. I'm happy people went crazy over it and I think Kusama's a hell of a director, but it just didn't hit me dead center like it did most critics. Killer final shot, though.

So you may be surprised to find that I'm really excited for Kusama getting poached by Fox to direct a thriller called BREED, based on a novel of the same name. I may be lukewarm on The Invitation, but Girlfight is great, Jennifer's Body is way underrated and Aeon Flux is a fascinating clusterfuck that Kusama bravely tried to hold together.

Although I'm not The Invitation's biggest fan, I do appreciate the strong characterwork that went into it, so it's cool to me that Kusama's next will be scripted by Invitation's screenweriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, which is set up at Fox with Scott Frank producin, per Deadline.

The story centers around a wealthy couple that really want kids, but can't seem to make it work, so they try out a crazy Eastern European fertility clinic. They have twins. 10 years later they maybe realize something's not quite right with the kids.

Cool. Sold. Maybe I'll dig this one a ton and all the other critics will hate it just so we can be even on Kusama's body of work!
