Nacho Vigalondo's giant monster movie COLOSSAL gets picked up!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here! One of the more crazy awesome movies that's starting to screen is Nacho Vigalondo's COLOSSAL, a giant monster movie (I want to say Godzilla-like, but am worried Toho will get upset and call their lawyers again) starring Anne Hathaway and The Guest's Dan Stevens.

The flick has screened at TIFF and will be bowing soon at Fantastic Fest. Anybody who has seen one of Nacho's crazy flicks knows why a bigger budget, star-studded monster movie from him is something to be excited about (I highly recommend Time Crimes if you're a Nacho noob).

Deadline is reporting that Colossal, a story about a woman who thinks she has a psychic connection to the big lizard destroying her city and that only she can stop it, has been picked up for millions. That's not unusual for a high profile film picked up out of Toronto, but what is unusual is the buyer is remaining anonymous for the time being. Deadline says it's a Chinese company that is investing heavily in a big US studio and that the collaboration will be announced in the coming weeks, but that they paid a bunch of money for the distribution rights to this movie and have guaranteed it a significant 2017 release.

All that means we'll likely see Colossal on the big screen here when this company's US studio partner puts the flick into theaters instead of some smaller VOD/Limited release that has become the norm, especially for genre, these days.

I'm happy for Nacho and his team and doubly excited to catch it at Fantastic Fest in a couple weeks!
