Jason Momoa is the next contestant to go "Kaw! Kaw! Kaw!" in THE CROW!

Hey folks, Harry here...  I know, late as can be on this, but I've been in denial.   Look, I like Jason Mamoa.   Khal Drogo is the shit.  His Conan was a bit shit, but I blame the director there.   In person, Mamoa is a ferocious Bear Spirit animal.  When I met him, he put me in a headlock and I was near passing out by the time the really shit photo of us was taken.   But I got about 20 minutes of chat time with him there - and given it was immediately following his CONAN, it was striking - just how much more life was in this monster of a man.   Khal Drogo crowning that idiot brother - resulted in life long love for this man, and given AQUAMAN is my personal favorite D.C. character, though I acknowledge that I feel the same way about METAMORPHO, DEADMAN, SWAMP THING, DR. FATE, BATMAN, SUPERMAN, METAL MEN, ZATANNA, HARLEY, JOKER, Prison Uniform LEX LUTHOR, and of course... PREZ.   But AQUAMAN was first for me.   First loves are a curious thing.   It made me love swimming, free diving, scuba diving, riding in submarines and having a healthy respect for the sea.  But I like my Aquaman in Orange & Green and riding on the backs of flying fish.   And I doubt seriously James Wan has the coolness for that.   Giggle.   Actually he does, I hope.   But this Zach Snyder shot JUSTICE LEAGUE...  that's where we'll get our first look at him.

Then, this January 2017, production will begin on THE CROW - Relativity Style.   Now, this news all comes from Umberto Gonzalez (formerly known as El Mayimbe & forever in our hearts).    He's at his new gig at THE WRAP, where he's telling us that Colin Hardy is directing.   Relativity has been going through major shake ups due to their bankruptcy, so, due to all that - who knows for certain this is going to shoot or not.  When companies change leaders and go through bankruptcy - nothing is ever for sure.

And for many of you, that's the hope you'll cling to.  Alex Proyas' THE CROW starring Brandon Lee is a tragic Masterpiece that I love.  I remember the exact place in this world I was when the tragedy hit the world.  I was in the gas station at 45th Street and Duval Road browsing an article in a magazine talking about The Curse of THE CROW set.   It was a tongue in cheek article.   But I loved THE CROW comic - but more so, I loved Brandon Lee.   His RAPID FIRE and SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO made me a believer that he was headed on to greater things.   I was hoping he'd be Peter Parker for James Cameron, but Proyas turning him into THE CROW.   Hell to the Yes.   I bought the magazine, it was blisteringly hot in Austin that day, Dad had the radio on - and I was showing Dad the article, when over the radio...  BRANDON LEE is dead.   Went through all the steps of grief.   Even when the film came out, there was a part of me that was waiting for Brandon to show up as a tie in magic trick.  But sadly, reality just sucks.

Watching the film, you can't help but feel the loss.  It's going to always be that way.  James O'Barr is heavily involved in this rendition of THE CROW.  Others have tried to do CROW films, they have indeed sucked the rust off a muffler.   Does it mean it is impossible to make a better CROW movie?  Probably, but not impossible.  The word around is that they're going for a more John Woo-ish vibe...   Personally, I'd prefer Ringo Lam, personally, but I get it, he's for the more extreme action aficionados.   That said...  Whether Mamoa manages to give us something astonishing, or something that misses, it doesn't really matter.   Alex Proyas' THE CROW will always be less than 4 feet from my PS4.  Fuck it, I'll watch that tonight.  I love that film.

Keep it cool,

Harry
