Antoine Fuqua in talks to direct a new SCARFACE for Universal!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This is an interesting development. Deadline says that Antoine Fuqua is in talks to direct a new Scarface film for Universal.

Fuqua's film would be set in modern day Los Angeles and only borrow the basic skeleton of an immigrant who scales the crime lord ladder. That's the interesting angle to me. This isn't a remake of Brian De Palma's iconic '80s Miami-set story or the original Paul Muni Chicago Gangster take. It's pretty neat to me that they'll take this name and make a new story based on a real life criminal. Muni was doing Capone, Pacino was doing a take on Escobar and now the director of Training Day is headed back to gritty underbelly of Los Angeles crime with this title.

It's an interesting development, whether it pans out or not. Fuqua's a good pick for this. I'm curious to see who he'd get to lead it. The obvious idea is for him to once again reteam with Denzel Washington, but they've already done their gritty LA crime story and Washington already has a rags to riches crimelord flick under his belt (American Gangster).

What do you folks think?
