Christopher Nolan's WWII flick DUNKIRK gets a fantastic teaser trailer!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I unabashedly love Christopher Nolan. He's not always 100% successful with his films (Dark Knight Rises jumps immediately to mind), but he always always always does his damndest to preserve the theatrical experience with his storytelling. He swings for the fences when it comes to his stories and shoots them as gorgeously, and as big, as posible.

His movies are audience experiences. Two of my favorite audience movie experiences since doing this gig have been that first IMAX screening of The Dark Knight and watching the audience squirm in their seats trying to mentally make the spinning top fall over in the final shot of Inception.

I'm also quite obsessed with movies set during World War 2, so the fact that Nolan's next is a WW2 story set around the Dunkirk Evacuation makes me almost giddy with anticipation. If you're not familiar with the event, it was one of the many make-it-or-break-it moments of the early war where almost the entirety of Britain's army was stranded in France, surrounded by the Germans. It was a jumbled mess early on in the war (1940, before the US entered the fight) meant to protect France from the incoming Nazi invasion that put England at risk of losing the core of their forces.

It's one of those moments that shaped the war. If it had gone the other way, if Hitler had pressed harder and taken out these men, it's quite possible the outcome of the war would have been sadly different.

The first trailer for this film, which has an impressive cast including Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, James D'Arcy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh and, oddly, Harry Styles, is one of those impressive Nolan teasers that conveys tone without dialogue. Check it out:

This one's high on my list of 2017 releases. What about you?
