This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Robots, Sharks, and Crazy Cat Ladies!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's selection of fun films from across the globe. This week's lineup has a healthy dose of comedy, animation, and unexpected insanity. Each short below has something cool that I thought, "Whoa - more folks should check this out," so hopefully you agree. If anything, I hope you're able to give each film a look as they're kind of all over the place. Whoever you are, whatever your week's been like, I just hope you find a film today that does something for you. Making a film, regardless of scope or budget, is a difficult task, so if you have the ability to make each one "full screen" and crank the volume up, you'll be doing the filmmakers and yourself a solid. Remember, if you've got a cool idea for a short film of your own - follow that passion and make it! That's exactly what the creatives below did. At any rate, let's get this screening party underway!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here!

CARL

TRT: 6:42

To set us up straight, we've got an incredible animated short from Juhász Márk. CARL "starts with the duel of a ROBOT GLADIATOR vs SPACE JESUS but escalates to a much bigger conflict when the love interest appears." I just love the design of the characters, the action, and pacing that Juhász has on display here. There's even a cool "making of" tumblr page that Juhász created to give a little insight into how the short came to be. Be sure to see more of Juhász's work over on his Youtube Page!

FLAT TIRE

TRT: 2:03

Mike Postalakis is back with another short and sweet film. "Mike needs Justin's help changing a flat." I love seeing what Mike is up to and like the fact that he doesn't keep making the exact same short over and over, but always has something new to dive into. Be sure to check out his Vimeo Page if you like what you see!

LOREE'S CRAZY 'BOUT KITTENS

TRT: 1:25

Benji Gillespie has our next short, a minute of "what the hell?" that will leave you with a smile. Loree is one "interesting" individual and that's about all I'd want to preface this one with. Check out more from Benji on his Funny Or Die page, as well as his Vimeo Page!

CHUM ZONE II: SHARK FIN SUITS

TRT: 2:49

Scott Hanshew and Desmond Ports of In Living Terror have our next piece, an almost "Dilbert with Sharks" style cartoon. It's the follow-up to their first CHUM ZONE short, which was fun. They have many, many more cartoons over on their Youtube Page, shorts I definitely think you should check out.

ARCHETYPE

TRT: 7:01

To close us out for the week, let's look at a film Aaron Sims put out back in 2012. "RL7 is an eight-foot tall combat robot that goes on the run after malfunctioning with vivid memories of once being human. As its creators and the military close in, RL7 battles its way to uncovering the shocking truth behind its mysterious visions and past." Aaron is quite possibly one of the greatest concept artists of our time, a guy who's imagination has impacted so... so many badass films. (Random example - I've been binge watching Netflix's STRANGER THINGS which he worked on.) Absolutely check out his website - as it features concept art from tons, and tons of projects.

There we have it, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you cuaght something today that really rocked your world. There's an enormous amount of talent in the films above, and even more in the links below. If you're in the mood for more shorts, then be sure to click on any of the links below!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
