Amblin picks up the Amblin-y sounding spec script THE FALL!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Amblin having a little bit of a come-back is very, very interesting to me. A whole generation of filmmakers who grew up with Amblin produced films and TV series are out there and ready to tackle similar tones in their work, so it only makes sense that Amblin is going to actually produce some of them.

The news today is that Amblin has picked up a spec script by a writer named Pete Bridges called THE FALL, per Deadline. The log-line sounds a bit like Spielberg's own take on War of the Worlds. It's about a divorced couple that is in downtown Atlanta when the big alien invasion hits and they must get home where their kids are alone as the world is falling apart. It's supposed told in “real-time” which just means that the story won't have “one week later” type cuts.

I think 10 Cloverfield Lane proved that these low to mid budget original films can still pull an audience and if Amblin could start pumping out those kind of thrillers on the regular I'll be hog heaven.

What do you folks think?
