A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing director Nicholas Winding Refn and composer Cliff Martinez just before the release of their hypnotic glam-horror film THE NEON DEMON. I really dug the film's glossy aesthetic, menacing undertones, wonderfully varied female characters, and it's delicious plunge into the macabre. With a respectable two week take at the box office (the film will have its digital release coming up with Amazon), THE NEON DEMON is apparently already achieving cult status on the Interwebs.

...as well as some fun NEON DEMON inspired fan art.

Even the cool kids of the movie poster art world, Mondo, have sold out of their limited edition version by artist Jay Shaw.

In addition to fan love online and in social media, a recent limited edition vinyl soundtrack signing event with Refn and Martinez in attendance at Amoeba Records had some from the famed store declaring it one of their biggest events to date.

Also joining the bandwagon, Alamo Drafthouse founder/CEO Tim League is hosting skype Q and A sessions with Refn and Jena Malone following screenings on Saturday 7/9 and Sunday 7/10 for lucky Austinites who will undoubtably have questions for the director. I'm really excited to see such a ground swell of support for a film that not only transcends the typical horror fare, but also makes such a lasting impression on cinephiles who appreciate the film's beautiful depravity. So whether you are in Austin this coming weekend for the special Q and A screenings, or you plan on catching a movie at your nearest cinema, I highly recommend seeing THE NEON DEMON theatrically while you still have the chance.
