Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm not sure what it is, but certain stories just seem to call to Hollywood to be made and remade and rebooted and revamped and re-interpreted over and over again. Ben-Hur is one of those stories.
You can't deny it's a powerful story and has at least two great screen versions (the famous Heston/William Wyler 1959 epic and 1925's Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ), but did we really need a big, CGI-ified modern retelling of this thing? Did anybody ask for this movie?
The new trailer is stuffy, tonally confused and super serious, you guys. Unless Church groups really rally behind this thing I can't imagine this being anything but a big wet fart at the box office.
See what I mean? How about we all just agree to pop in that crazy great Blu-Ray restoration of the Heston version and watch that instead the weekend this thing comes out? Which is August 19th for those that have yet to rise an eyebrow.
