Hey folks, Harry here... Before AICN, when I first started college, I made a friend whose brother was an Autistic Savant, like the subject of this film, he became fascinated with animation. He knew EVERYTHING about animation, had the most extensive collection of theatrical cartoons I'd ever seen. All the books about animation and you could flip to any page and he could read it to you from memory. Perfect. Watching him in that family environment and seeing how media brought the whole family together... amazed me. I'd seen RAIN MAN, but that was a Hollywood movie. This LIFE, ANIMATED is about a different family with an Autistic child that used the Animated Disney lens to frame his own reality - and well... just watch...
There is a beautiful truth to cinema... Creator intentions, critical acceptance, box office realities... these things are meaningless when framed against the countless individual tales of how film changed lives in subtle and drastic ways. I know Astronauts that cite STAR TREK, 2001 & STAR WARS as what started them on their journey. An FBI Profiler that was inspired by Jodie Foster's Clarice in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. There are countless stories. Countless inspirations. The bond that film has with families - and the memory of experiencing cinema with the relationships we make in life - these are the important things about cinema. It's why I've dedicated my life to cinema. To sharing something like this trailer for a film about a family with an Autistic kid that learned to engage through film with reality. Me too.
