Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Dwayne Johnson has been teasing us for quite some time about his flirtations with Shane Black's adaptation of pulp hero Doc Savage, but now he's taken the extra step. He's put a ring on it, so to speak, and has announced he's officially onboard to play The Man of Bronze for the first time in live action since the cheeseball 1975 feature starring Ron Ely.
Word is that Black is setting this up to be his next feature immediately after he's done with his Predator reboot and I couldn't be happier about this match of filmmaker and material. Black has shown time and again that he's a master at attacking pulpy material and with someone like The Rock in the lead this thing is going to be overloaded with charm and charisma.
When Johnson announced the news he also did a bit of a history lesson and break down of the character, which already proves that these guys know their shit and are attacking Doc Savage from teh right angle.
Here's Mr. The Rock, the busiest man in show business, to tell you why he's so psyched about this:
Can't wait! More Shane Black equals more happy movie geeks.
