Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with a little bit of info on the latest NINJA TURTLES film. While the film is set to come out in just a few weeks, the LA TIMES just confirmed that funny man Brad Garrett is set to voice the villainous alien brain creature Krang. Garrett is well known for his insanely deep voice, his time on shows like EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, countless Disney films, and for his comedy club at the MGM casino. The man is always working, even appearing in the FARGO TV show recently. His voice is specifically his own, in that when you hear his bassy laughter in a given cartoon or voice over, you know instantly who was on the other end of that microphone. This is a pretty interesting casting choice to be honest, given it was speculated that SNL vet Fred Armisen was locked in already for the role. But when the reality of scheduling around so many "in-demand" individuals arises, sometimes you've got to switch gears a bit, you know, turn the bass up a little. Director Dave Green is all about that super bass now with Garrett giving life to Krang. That's quite a switch up, from Armisen to Garrett, and I'm actually a bit bummed Armisen had to tap out, but excited with their latest choice, provided the movie hits screens in two weeks.
I'm a big fan of Green's and am absolutely looking forward to this film. I'm curious to see what of Green's directing sensibilities come through and which ones were stomped down by a committee, provided there's a lot riding on a movie like this. It's intended to sell toys, shirts, lunch boxes, and more - though it's being directing by a fan this time, so I hope it turns out as Green originally intended and stands on its own as simply a fun film that entertains and has a heartbeat rather than "Explosions! Ninjas! Emptiness inside!" (I'm still holding out hope for an Ernie Reyes Jr. cameo in the film.) I'll be seeing the film; though now will forever think of what could have been with Armisen's Krang involved. Hopefully for everyone, this movie is something special. Fingers crossed.
I'm looking forward to the film, but how about you folks? What are your thoughts on the film, the franchise, this casting news, and well... anything relating to Ninja Turtles for that matter?
