Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The weirdest news of the day is that Nicolas Winding Refn has acquired the rights to remake the trippy late-'60s Vincent Price period horror flick Witchfinder General, which was also released under the title The Conquerer Worm.
The news came out of Cannes where Refn is on the ground for his new film, Neon Demon. He's teaming up with Rupert Preston to produce the remake and they're currently considering writers and directors for the film, per Deadline.
If you've seen it (and you really should) you'd know this is right up Refn's ally. I know he's only producing, but you can look at a lot of creative producers and see a through line to their own directorial work. Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro jump immediately to mind and even the early Amblin days had a lot of Spielberg in every film he produced.
The movie's about a striking, imposing murderous figure roaming the English countryside as a Witchfinder, going from village to village and pulling confessions out of accussed witches. As you can guess, it normally doesn't work out too well for those accussed.
Price is so striking in that role I'm struggling to think of someone who could make as much of an impression. Mads Mikkelsen, maybe?
What do you folks think?
