Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with an interesting bit of casting news that popped out of Cannes over the weekend. Scott Roxborough over at HR was the first to throw it out there, but I find it pretty fascinating myself. Shia LaBeouf is apparently set to play John McEnroe in a new film focusing on the McEnroe - Borg rivalry of the 1980's. I'll be the first to admit that was a little before my time, but I've seen clips and interviews of McEnroe and he was clearly a passionate guy who was interesting to watch, not only to admire his skill, but also in case he blew a gasket. (Similar to a Nascar event I'd imagine). In terms of biopics or films based on real world individuals, the key is to look towards folks who seem to be on their own level. I think McEnroe was just that, and at the same time Shia LeBouf is almost the perfect guy to portray him for the same reason. Say what you might about the guy, but LaBeouf has my interest, only judging from the types of films he attaches himself to, and his artistic endeavors which openly welcome scrutiny/interpretation. I have got to respect the guy for doing his own thing.

Sverrir Gudnason will play McEnroe's rival Bjorn Borg in BORG/MCENROE, a film written by UNDERDOG's Ronnie Sandahl and directed by Janus Metz, who is completely in tune with the Borg/McEnroe world provided he's already made a doc on the rivalry. Stellan Skarsgard is also expected in the film, playing Borg's coach. The film is expected to hit theaters in 2017. It seems like there's quite a bit of talent involved with the project, so I'm excited to see how it all turns out. How about you folks? What are your thoughts on the film and it's casting decisions thus far?
