I just picked up the latest copy of Fangoria, and there's a big zombie staring at me from the front cover with the words "George Romero Returs" on it. I flip it open, and there is an article about him and his future projects. Seems he has just finished a 30 second commercial for the Japanese release of Resident Evil 2.Working with all those zombies, it seems, has really exhilerated him. He says that he is in preliminary talks to helm the RESIDENT EVIL movie. Now, nothing is definate, hell a script hasn't been written yet, but he seemed pretty enthuse about it, especially since one of his latest projects, Black Mariah, is now, officially dead. He also talked a bit about a possible fourth Dead movie (tentatively called TWILIGHT OF THE DEAD) He talked about the movies for a bit. "'It would be about the devouring of the whole society,' he reveals. 'The DEAD movies always fit the respective decades they were made in. The 60s were active, angry, and much more overtly political. The seventies were 'Spend baby, the times are good.' The 80s was a downfall of that and a collapse into darker territaory. The 90s version would be basically about people ignoring the problem. To me, that's what things are about now-somehow conning the people to look the other way. The zombies would be treated the way the homeless are treated.'"
He also said that if he did make a fourth DEAD film, he would want to be able to make it unrated.
Another little tidbit: seems that Romero was originally aproached to do SCREAM, but didn't get "whether it was supposed to be funny or scary."
There you have it. Romero may be in line for another zombie film...only not neccesarily the fourth DEAD film. He seems really excited about possibly directing RESIDENT EVIL.
