Tony Stark to show up in Spider-Man: Homecoming!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The smartest move Sony has made in the last decade was partnering with Marvel Studios instead of constantly churning out half-baked Spider-Man movies in order to keep the IP.

I have yet to see Civil War, but I hear Tom Holland nailed everybody's favorite webhead, so it does my little geek heart proud when news like Robert Downey Jr. appearing in the Sony standalone Spider-Man movie (called Homecoming), per THR.

Downey has kind of become the ambassador of all things Marvel Cinematic Universe. You'd think after nearly 10 years of playing Tony Stark he'd be trying to break away from it, but every run in I've ever had with Downey has cemented my belief that he's genuinely honored to have started the new wave of superhero films and happy to continue doing them. He makes a shit ton of money doing it, of course, but there's still a feeling of gratitude you get when he talks that these movies gave him a second chance.

THR's story says that Downey's Tony Stark will appear in Homecoming and that appearance required some rather serious negotiating. It required a whole new contract since it's outside his current contract with Marvel.

This kind of star-swapping between studios isn't new. It was the norm back in the golden age of Hollywood. The difference being that the actors on the whole have a lot more power than they did back in the day.

It's exciting to me that the MCU will expand beyond even the Disney films and if we're in for a whole slew of great Kevin Feige-led Spider-Man stories and appearances I'm on cloud nine. That was my book growing up, Peter Parker the character I most related to. Exciting times, fellow nerds. Exciting times.
