Before you cry “Underwhelming!”, just remember that it’s all sure to get bigger and crazier from here on out…
Earlier today, Vin Diesel posted the first teaser poster for FURIOUS 8 over at the official center of all things FAST & FURIOUS, XXX, and RIDDICK a.k.a. his Facebook page.
Now, you may think it’s bizarre that Vin has reduced this increasingly ensemble-based franchise to merely an image of him, his muscles, his muscle-tee, his muscle car, and some open road. I certainly do. But I get what the poster’s trying to do, which is affirm the notion that they’re charting a new course for the series, going forward. Losing Brian, the co-lead of the series who actually appeared above the title more times than Vin until this point, is at least as big of a change as the shift to heist-related mayhem in FAST FIVE, and this poster emphasizes that massive alteration in course the franchise is now taking.
They’ve got Charlize Theron and Scott Eastwood joining Vin and returning cast members The Rock, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, GOD KURT RUSSELL, and possibly even Eva Mendes and Lucas Black, and they’re likely all going to New York for this one. F. Gary Gray is trying his hat in the ring, following the footsteps of Rob Cohen, John Singleton, Justin Lin, and James Wan, so we’ll see what kind of vehicular carnage he’ll be able to pull off on the streets of the Big Apple when the first trailer comes out later this year or early next year.
But for now, we know Vin’s back, ripped and bald as ever, ready to put that Charger to good use at least one more time.
FURIOUS 8 will turn over on April 14th, 2017.
