Quint here again with a little update. Just about the time I hit the sack last night Entertainment Weekly published a clarification on this story. They caught up with Abrams and he kinda walked back what he said. The full quote is here, but the gist of it is that he meant Rey doesn't DISCOVER her parents in Episode VII "not that they may not already be in her world." So, there you go. Kinda back to square one, aren't we? Still, the speculation is my favorite part of the lead up to the new Star Wars films, so I ain't mad atcha, JJ.
Original story below:

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. One of the big questions to come out of The Force Awakens was who the hell are Rey's parents. Is she a Skywalker? Is she a Kenobi? What if she's Snoke's kid? She's gotta be someone's kid and if she's not the offspring of a known force user then why all the secrecy?
Well, JJ Abrams was asked about Rey's parents at a Tribeca event with Chris Rock and his response is very interesting. He says that Rey's parents (plural, so don't go thinking she's a new midichlorian baby or something) are not in Episode 7.
Here's video, which I found thanks to i09.

So, unless he's being tricky, that means she's no Skywalker or Solo. The Solo theory I've been arguing against since December. If Han knew Rey was his daughter then why doesn't he give a shit when she's kidnapped? Why doesn't Kylo sense it when digging around in her head?
I'd say the only fan theory that makes any sense at this point is that she's a Kenobi, but I'd be just as happy if they reveal her parents are wholly unconnected to what has come before. That opens up the Star Wars universe a bit and means that there's more to this galaxy than the Skywalkers.
What do you guys think?
