SHREK trailer online

Hey folks, Harry here... Now earlier this week we saw the trailer debut for FINAL FANTASY.... and it was pretty.... some people referred to it as amazing and dazzling.... Some hailed it as the greatest step forward in CG animation..... Personally, I see the animation work there as making people that once had character become beautiful people with a severe lack of character.... I also felt that the backgrounds and the universe that they occupied in that trailer were lacking something. NOW... God willing they have their story together, and in terms of emotional acting... hopefully there is quite a bit they are not showing us. But let me let you in on a secret....

Do you know why animators and in the history of cartoons they mainly tried to animate caricatures and exaggerated human features? BECAUSE, animating the exact human face.... trying to mimic all of its intricacies.... well with animation and exaggeration.... bigger eyes and brows... larger mouths.... Well, you can easily portray emotions and character... because their face lines, eyes and mouth are all exaggerations.

Now... I will give you a demonstration of what I mean. Over at CountingDown.Com they have the first trailer for SHREK... the next Dreamworks/PDI CG animated film.... ANTZ being their first foray into the pixel world of well rounded and lit characters.

I find the Lithgow, Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers' characters all far more expressive and endearing than the bland faces of FINAL FANTASY.... I feel this SHREK looks gobstoppingly super.... Now, while I can't wait for a serious CG animated film to kick my ass as hard as the non-serious ones have.... I will say that if you are going to replace the voice actors' faces and bodies with new ones... at least make them have as much character as the voices....

Also notice how in the SHREK trailer all the characters look like they belong stylistically in the same universe and dimension..... The backgrounds, foregrounds and the characters all FIT.... In the FINAL FANTASY footage I didn't get this sense. I want both to succeed hugely, as the animation field really really needs the sort of success that these two projects have the potential for.
