There's two new henchmen who have been particularly forthcoming as of late, and one of them piped up late tonight with a tasty little bit of news I hadn't heard anywhere yet. If it turns out to be true then it's about the 200th different version of DIE HARD 4 that I've heard discussed. This one might actually be interesting, a variation on the series that could be somewhat fresh. Here's "SUPERFLY TNT" with the word...
"Hello, evil one, I've got some big news for you this time! Guess who's probably the hottest director in town right now? ROB BOWMAN, if you can belive it. THE XFILES MOVIE didn't do much for him at the time, but he's been busy, and he's about to explode!"
"I know you know all about the dragon movie REIGN OF FIRE he's doing with McConaughey, Bale, and Arnold"...
MORIARTY NOTE: Actually, I don't know nearly enough about this dragon movie. Anybody want to toss a script in the general direction of the Labs?!
..."but he's also signed up now for DIE HARD 4! Yep, he's picked a storyline with Bruce, and they're ready to go. Get this, man; Mcclane's got a kid! Like with his wife, he's pissed the kid off, and they don't talk. Then the kid gets grabbed by some mercenaries in South Africa and Bruce has no choice. He goes after him and does his thing on the bad guys! I haven't read this yet, (not even sure it's finished, but I know this is what they're doing with it) but as soon as I know more, I'll get back to you. Go kick Mongo for me! SUPERFLY TNT GONNA EXPLOOOOOODE!!"
Okay, then. Bowman, South Africa, Bruce and his son... all of this is new to me. Consider it a rumor for now, but I'm on the case. Let's sort this sucker out.
Just popped back in to respond to those in TalkBack below who are bringing up TEARS FROM THE SUN and the jungle scenario and saying, "Way to scoop old news, AICN!" Might I suggest a reading comprehension course? I never said jungle. My spy is talking about a new director, Rob Bowman, and not John Woo or McTiernan, or anyone we've heard mentioned with the series before, and a new premise altogether. TEARS FROM THE SUN, the South American rainforest DIE HARD sequel that was proposed, has been dead for quite some time now. It was not set in South Africa. It was more like DELIVERANCE, involving McClane and a group of businessmen who crashed in the jungle and had to survive without weapons against someone who was hunting them. I don't know who wrote the South African version they're talking about now, but I will be finding out as I confirm this. And, yes, Wrathful Buddha... it's true Bruce said he wouldn't be pursuing new action vehicles. He's been saying that for a while now. He's also been obligated to the DIE HARD 4 project forever, though, and by all accounts I've heard, he plans to fulfill that obligation. Like I said... we'll sort it out. Until then, it's a rumor, and worth noting as such. Clear enough now?
