No monster reveal just yet in this second teaser for A MONSTER CALLS!

They’re still playing coy with the actual reveal of the titular monster, but this second teaser for A MONSTER CALLS shows off the rest of its human cast (including Sigourney Weaver and Felicity Jones), as well as displaying the kind of spectacle we can expect from the final film.

It’s not inconceivable that there simply aren’t enough glamour shots of the monster fully-rendered at this stage, but there’s a bunch of showy special effects in this teaser, which makes this seem a lot more colorful and large-scaled than we may have previously thought. There seems to be a lot going on in the relationship between the young boy and his mom (Jones), but there does appear to be an external threat in the guise of that earthquake or whatever it is, provided that’s not a dream sequence. Either way, this is way more opulent than I expected.

Neeson’s voice is obviously a crucial selling point of this film, and he sounds great, whether that extra-juicy growl comes from deep within his massive frame or from a post lab somewhere here in L.A. We’ve only gotten glimpses of his monster at this point, but what we’ve seen looks frightening, massive, and original (though they’re probably working overtime to ensure he looks absolutely nothing like an Ent). Maybe the next trailer will give us the full reveal.

This is finally looking like something worthy of the director of THE ORPHANAGE and THE IMPOSSIBLE. Think this looks like a worthy successor to WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and PAN’S LABYRINTH?

A MONSTER CALLS a young boy in the middle of the night on October 14th.
