“Literally about an hour ago, we figured out that I am gonna go back and do it!” Melissa McCarthy said on Thursday’s episode of “Ellen,” explaining she would reprise the role of Sookie St. James, Lorelei Gilmore’s chef, business partner and best friend, on Netflix’s six-hour revival of “Gilmore Girls.”
“Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is returning to script four 90-minute “Gilmore Girls” movies that will stream on Netflix.
Virtually every major cast member from the series except McCarthy (and the late Edward Herrmann) – including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Yanic Truesdale, Sean Gunn, Liza Weil, Matt Czuchry, Jared Padalecki and Milo Ventimiglia – were confirmed to return for the project long ago.
McCarthy tweeted on Feb. 2 that she had not been invited to participate in the Netflix revival.
The sequel movies began shooting in February and will continue before the cameras into summer.
Since the 2007 “Gilmore Girls” finale McCarthy has starred in the big-screen projects “Bridesmaids,” “This Is 40,” “Identity Thief,” “Hangover III,” “Tammy,” “The Heat,” “Saint Vincent,” “Spy,” “Boss” and “Ghostbusters,” as well as the CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly.”
