Live in Chicago? Capone has seats for an early screening of GREEN ROOM, with writer-director Jeremy Saulnier Q&A!!!

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

With only a small handful of films to his credit as writer-director (he’s also a prolific indie cinematographer), Jeremy Saulnier has established himself as a real-deal filmmaker, beginning with MURDER PARTY and nailing it down with his previous film BLUE RUIN, the deconstructed story of a would-be assassin who has no idea what he’s doing yet still manages to straight-up murder a whole lot of bad people.

But when the reviews started coming in for his latest film, GREEN ROOM, almost a year ago from the Cannes Film Festival, it became clear that Saulnier was becoming great at telling intriguing stories in unconventional ways. He’s managed to slip in a few familiar names into his cast with this film, including Patrick Stewart in full-blown villain mode; Anto Yelchin; Imogen Poots; Alia Shawkat; Mark Webber; and even BLUE RUIN star Macon Blair. It’s an incredible and brutal work set in the world of punk rock music, which occasionally intersects with white supremacists. I caught the film at Sundance earlier this year, and it immediately became one of my favorite movies of the year so far. And now I’m going to give Chicago-area residents a chance to see it early.

I’ve got a limited number of seats for an early Chicago screening of GREEN ROOM for Ain’t It Cool News readers and one guest on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30pm at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to the winners). As a special bonus, writer-director Jeremy Saulnier will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A. Here’s how to win…

To win, send me an email at GreenRoomChicago@aintitcoolmail.com (please note the new email address) with the subject line “It Won’t End Well!” (exactly like that). In the body of the email, I need your full Name, if you are bringing a guest or not (each winner may bring ONE, confirmed guest--if I think you gave your extra ticket to someone trolling for free tickets at the theater, you won't get in), and the answer to the following question: “What is your favorite unconventional thriller, and why?” I’m looking for a film title and a strong reason why this is your choice. I’m leaving the genre “unconventional thriller” deliberately vague, so feel free to be creative. Keep your responses BRIEF--no more than 100 words (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit).

Although this is not an exclusive Ain't It Cool News event, winners’ seats will be reserved until 15 minutes before showtime (meaning 7:15pm). The venue is deliberately overbooked to guarantee a full house for our guest. If you can't arrive by 7:15pm, don't enter this contest. If you show up at the last minute, there is no guarantee that your seats will be good or together. If there's even the slightest chance you or your guests will have to back out of attending or arrive late if you do win, don't enter. If you have a job that might make you late or unable to attend, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, or a scratchy throat, do not enter. And the 24-hour-notice-to-cancel rule is done. If you win and don't show up, the Black List is your new best friend.

Good luck, everyone! And thanks to A24 for giving us this very cool screening and bringing this great guest to Chicago.
