Hey folks, Harry here... it is weird but having seen this trailer on the big screen... I'm a bit underwhelmed by it. Sure the effects are STUNNING... the physical representation of the people are great... but the backgrounds are lacking... and the characters never show any range of emotion on their faces at all.... they all seem to be at a completely docile existence. Also, the motion of the characters all seems slightly... floaty. I guess I'm probably just nitpicking but when you are going for 'photo-realistic' these problems may arise. Right now, the items left unproven through this trailer are: Is the story any good? Are the characters expressive enough to get us as audience members involved in the story? The eyes were not expressive, sort of like Keanu's or Freddie Prinze Jr's.... Pretty faces... but little character.
And other than being pretty... it just didn't capture me... didn't leave a real impression. I want the movie to succeed, I want CG film born and healthy... but right now it sort of reminds me of that BJORK video with the robots... pretty... but can I watch a full film of unexpressive pretty faces? Sure I can, but will it sweep me up and be a super super cool film forever? And what is the reason for making it all CG if the characters are human? Imagine the same exact footage, but with Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Ving Rhames.... all playing the characters they are supposed to be playing there... would that be worse? better? I don't know, the film hopefully has an astounding story that mutes all of this... but we'll just have to wait and see.... Here's how to get the trailers:
