Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. No shit, when I logged on today and popped open iTuens the first two songs to play as I was catching up on the news of the day were Yo-Ho from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and Birthday by The Beatles. It's like my computer knew Paul McCartney had joined the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
What a weird sentence to type, but it strangely fits considering that another British Invasion icon (Keith Richards, of course) was featured prominently in the series. Deadline has the word that McCartney is in the flick and will be at the center of a big action sequence that they're currently shooting. They're quick to point out that this isn't a reshoot, but an add-on sequence the filmmakers felt like they needed.
It feels like they've been making this movie for a decade, but I gotta admit I have a flame of hope that this one will turn the series around. It might be a little battered wife syndrome in action on my end, but anything is better than Pirates IV. I have hope that the Kon-Tiki guys (Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg) will give us something a bit less flat than Rob Marshall did with the last one.
Being a huge McCartney fan I'm psyched to see his cameo. The dude was great in all his Beatles movies (A Hard Day's Night, Help! and Magical Mystery Tour) and I bet you he'll be a blast here.
What do you folks think?
