THE MUMMY’s got two more potential victims: Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson.
Wallis, of PEAKY BLINDERS and, sure enough, ANNABELLE, was announced yesterday, and will play a scientist opposite Tom Cruise’s former special forces badass.
Johnson was the geeked-out Samuel L. Jackson surrogate behind the console in JURASSIC WORLD and has also been on NEW GIRL for 5 years, but his role is less clear: “a member of the military.” I wouldn’t peg him for a muscle-bound Mummy-slayer, but Johnson had to do some action stuff in LET’S BE COPS, and handled it like a pro. I would bet on him delivering some wisecracks though.
Alex Kurtzman is still directing, which doesn’t inspire a world’s worth of confidence, but between Cruise, Johnson, and Sofie Boutella as the actual Mummy, they’re assembling a decent little cast for this contemporary man vs. creature flick that should kick off Universal’s grand expanded universe of monster movies.
THE MUMMY will shroud its true intentions on June 9th, 2017.
