You may still be licking your wounds after that GHOSTBUSTERS trailer last week (which currently has over twice as many downvotes than upvotes on Youtube), but Sony’s got bigger plans for the franchise, with Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd’s “Ghost Corps” set up to create a GB EU. They got the all-guy GHOSTBUSTERS in development with the Russos, and the animated flick, which has landed a director.
Fletcher Moules worked on props and creatures for THE MATRIX, RED PLANET, and EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES, but he’s best known for the ads for the CLASH OF CLANS mobile app, including ones featuring Liam Neeson and Christoph Waltz that you can see below.
They have a lively, colorful animation style that depicts grand-scale fantasy-action in a manner that’s comfortably child-friendly without seeming obscured. There’s a good sense of physicality and comedy that could work great within the GHOSTBUSTERS world, and I have no doubt he could make proton streams and ghost traps look flashy and cool.
I don’t expect the film to use either rosters of characters from the two live-action versions coming out, but I couldn’t venture a guess as to what they got planned for this. LEGO BATMAN and the animated SPIDER-MAN are proving that animated spinoffs premiering amidst live-action entries isn’t as weird as it seems, so consider this somewhat independent of that Feig-fest that’s coming out.
In regards to that, let’s just hope the final film has got more to get excited about than that trailer, eh?
