So you love Adam Sandler. You liked THE WEDDING SINGER and want more opera man doing other things. Well here comes a scoop with no added sugar from the lightning fast hand of Zeus, who likes hanging out in Arenas. THE WATER BOY. Wow....i...m......s0OOOOOOOOO..... excited...... Hee hee, ok I haven't seen The Wedding Singer, but man... it's Adam Sandler. Oh well, I better go see it, I'm sure to get angry email.
I have been to the trenches and now I have returned to talk to you about Adam Sandlers new movie "The Waterboy." About 6,000 of us Orlando residents had the luck to sit on the set, watch the filming, and be extras in the movie. Now I will go more in depth on my day.
My party arrived at the Orlando Orange Bowl around 7:30am along with the other 5,993 people that I did not know. Like line people at a movie screening our talk was that of movies, movies, and more movies. Being film students our talk encompassed every aspect, every nook and crany of film talk and helped pass the time. Around 9:00 we were allowed into the stadium and we had to scavenge for our seats. Luck was on our side because we found FRONT ROW seats right in front of the set. One is never truly humbled and awe-inspired until they are witness to the goings on of a true live film shoot, to hell with the stars, I WANT TO WORK WITH ALL THOSE FUN TOYS(as you can tell I am a film student, sorry).
Then I got the skinny(sorry Harry wrong word)on the movie. Adam Sandler plays a nice guy who is the waterboy for the Louisiana Cougars football team(college). Jerry Reed(Smokey and the Bandit) plays the Cougars head coach and kicks Sandler of the team because of Adams little problem. Seems that if he is pushed around enough, Sandler goes Bi-polar and starts beating the hell out of people. Something like Bruce Banner and his Hulk thing, only Adam doesnt grow huge muscles or changes color, I think.
Henry Winkler(Happy Days, yes I saw the Fonz)plays the head coach of the Louisiana State Muddogs, the rivals of the Cougars..DUH. Good ol Henry hires or enlists Adam to the Muddogs and uses his talent for Ass kicking to win games. He puts Adam in a offensive tackle(or whatever the hell they call it)and he basically crushes anyone who gets in the way.
The end of the movie, which is why we were there, takes place at the Bourbon Bowl in Louisiana where the Muddogs face, that's right the Cougars for a showdown. Of course the Muddogs win and have a huge celebration...yada yada yada. Kathy Bates(Titanic, Misery) stars as Adams mother, and Faruza Balk(The Craft) plays Adams ex-con girlfriend. There was also a very realistic Tom Cruise look-alike there probably to do a "Jerry Maguire" joke. This guy was Uncanny in how much he looked like him. I was only 15 feet away from him and it took me a while to realize.
All we had to do as extras was cheer on cue, not to tough. There were some times where we had to pantomime our cheers(without sound). It took THREE takes for most of the crowd to realize that the director said no sound, that when he said do not make a sound, that meant shut the hell up and ACT like you are cheering. This proves to me that society is doomed because people in general are morons. The team colors for the Cougars is purple and Orange for the Muddogs. We had colored pompoms to wave, one orange and one purple. The director asked for only the ORANGE to wave in most of the shots and that NO PURPLE ONES should be seen. What happened you may ask.....THEY WAVED MORE PURPLE THAN ORANGE.........F**KING MORONS. Needless to say we were there much longer than we needed to. Imagine sitting in 85 degree heat with the sun overhead from sunrise to sunset...very aggrivating.
But in the end it was well worth it to see a live shoot. That is all from me on the subjuect. If any more news comes around I will let you know.
