Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal re-team for a racially charged 12th Street Riots flick!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal have seen much success in their theatrical collaborations so far. Both The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty got heavy awards consideration (the former winning her a Best Director, winning him Best Original Screenplay and the film a Best Picture Oscar) and now they're setting their sights on a film set in and around the 12th Street Riot in Detroit.

Annapurna will fund the flick. Details are sparse (we don't even have a title yet), but The Wrap says it's a true crime story set against the backdrop of the riot.

What occurs to me is the civil rights fight that evolved out of a harsh police raid on a black bar is a shocking mirror to the recent events that unfolded in Ferguson, something I'm sure that hasn't escaped Boal and Bigelow.

I don't know how much the 1967 Detroit riot will factor in the story, but I'd be shocked if they're working in a little bit of a societal message within the movie.

Thoughts?
