I knew Ronda Rousey was trying to break out as an actress, but I didn’t expect that this was the way she’d go about it.
Rousey and Tina Fey will co-star in DO NOTHING BITCHES (taking bets on how quickly they change the title), which will be written by Fey’s SNL/SISTERS collaborator Paula Pell. It takes place in some sort of camp for spoiled, rich women who are overly dependent on their husbands. Fey is one of the wives, and Rousey is a take-no-shit counselor.
One of my favorite 30 ROCK episodes dealt with wealthy, content housewives who suck Liz Lemon into their circle before revealing that they keep their lives interesting by engaging in makeshift fight clubs on the now and again. This seems like it’s going after a similar target, and allows Fey to play a type she hasn’t really engaged with yet (which, if SISTERS is any indication, is definitely on of her agenda). While Rousey has only really been doing the grizzled-up hardass routine in her film appearances thus far, this should allow her to get in the kind of eye-opening jabs that Cena got in both TRAINWRECK and SISTERS, giving her a shot at a comedy career. Though, I’ll admit, I doubt I’ll laugh as hard as when she degraded and beat up Turtle in the ENTOURAGE movie.
Funny enough, this project was somewhat inspired by a Youtube video featuring Rousey titled, sure enough, “Do Nothing Bitches.” It’s kinda funny, even though it doesn’t appear she’s going for laughs. Check it out.
