Sony's Jumanji reboot nabs a director!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I don't know if I'd say rebooting Jumanji is the most exciting move I've seen in the studio system. The original film was silly and fun and happened to showcase Robin Williams at his zany best. It also got to be a showcase for that new fangled CG artistry.

Sony's reboot will be directed by Jake Kasdan (per Deadline), who has seen much success in TV (Freaks & Geeks!) as well as film (Walk Hard) and he's got his work cut out for him. Today's audiences (particularly the younger audience) can't be as easily wowed by CG spectacle, so he's really going to have to nail the cast and fun adventure side of this.

It also doesn't help that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner had the last pass on the script.

I always want every movie to be great and I like Kasdan a lot. I just don't know about this one. We'll see who he casts.
