Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've said it a million times, but I'll never get over just how crazy the Fast and the Furious series is and just how radically it has evolved from its original film.
It's no longer a simple take on Point Break with fast cars. Now it's a nutty, bigger-than-James-Bond globetrotting action series and one of the few of its type that fully embraces how ridiculous the concept is.
F. Gary Gray will be helming the eigth picture in the series and according to THR at least some of that film will be shot in Cuba.
With embargo restrictions loosening I expect we'll get a whole lot of Cuba in feature films, but this will be the first super huge major flick to take advantage of that recent embargo lift.
It's a perfect setting for this crazy franchise. I imagine we'll be getting our team sitting down and smoking some nice cigars while talking about familia against the backdrop of modern day Cuba.
In a way this era will be an interesting document of the country before it starts turning around financially with the influx of tourist dollars that is sure to flood the island once it becomes easy to travel there.
It's a cool move and I can't wait to see how it plays out. I just hope that we get to see The Rock and Kurt Russell back in action kicking all the ass. If F. Gary Gray gives me that AND some sweet action set pieces set in and around Cuba then all the rest of the movie will be gravy for me.
