Ok, this is a suspect review, in other words, none of my other spies reported on this screening. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, just that I didn't hear about it and noone else seems to as well. Why am I putting it up? Well it came from a gal wanting to be known as Lolita. huh huh huh.. cool. If you saw this screening please write me about what you saw, as completely as possible. Till then we'll just stare at this little ol Lolita review and hope OUT OF SIGHT doesn't suck like the lollipops she sucks on...
I was lucky enough to be chosen to see an early pring of "Out of Sight", a Steven Soderburgh movie based on the Elmore Leonard movie of the same name. It stars George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Steve Zahn, Don Cheadle, Ving Rhames, and has appearances by Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson. It's a convoluted but coherent crime drama/thriller about stolen diamonds, jailbreaks, and an odd romance. George Clooney is the bank robber on the lam, and Jennifer Lopez is the federal agent that's mad cause he's flagrant. Not only does she tap his cell and the phone in the basement, she falls in love with him.
It's a terrific movie that's easy to understand and fun to watch. It was funny, smart, and engaging, while at the same time being tasteful and only showing you what it needs to. The trademark Leonard dialogue is here in full force, and I came out of the movie invigorated and wanting to see it again. Steven Soderburgh gets out of his slump and directs the hell out of a brilliant script by a guy whose name I can't remember. He had elements of Scorcese and Tarantino, but finds his own style in between. All the performances are terrific. George Clooney has finally found a movie that showcases him like "ER" does. All the other actors play their vivid characters well and with enthusiasm. All in all a great flick and one you should keep your eyes on.
