Ideally, Kurt Russell’s reward for being so damn amazing in HATEFUL EIGHT would be an Oscar, but this works too.
According to Jeff Sneider at The Wrap, Kurt’s the top choice to play Star-Lord’s dad in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. James Gunn has maintained time and time again that it won’t be the same character as the books, J’son of Spartax, but we do have ample evidence that he is of the extra-terrestrial nature.
Things are very early on, and an offer isn’t even out, but wanting Kurt for the part is as obvious of a fanboy wish as one could imagine. Pratt’s performance had Jack Burton written all over it, even if he was slightly more competent and heroic than the driver of the Pork-Chop Express. Russell would be able to nail that kind of phony bravado and good ol’ fashioned American wiseassery that Pratt’s Star-Lord had in spades, and watching the two bounce off each other sounds like a blast and a half.
I really hope they don’t have to settle for their second choice on this. This sounds too good to be true, and we’d all be flippin’ overjoyed if it turned out not to be.
Who doesn’t want to see Kurt fucking Russell dispensing wisdom and laser blasts with equal frequency while flying around in space?????
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 starts side B on May 5th, 2017.
