I suppose when your comic book movie series boasts Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Rene Russo, Idris Elba, and Stellan Skarsgard among its cast members, it shouldn’t be surprising when more A-list, Oscar-pedigree talent hops onboard.
But somehow, reading that Cate Blanchett ”is in early talks to play one of the new female leads” in THOR: RAGNAROK still caught me offguard.
Not that Blanchett is any stranger to lending her esteem to genre films, obviously. But there isn’t a character that jumps out at me as one that the two-time Oscar-winner would be drawn to. A new Asgardian? Moonstone? Queen Elizabeth I?
Needless to say, Blanchett would be a great asset to THOR 3, and would no doubt add at least as much credibility and quasi-Shakespearean gesturing as Hopkins’ turn as Odin. We’ll see if they can get her to sign the dotted line.
Can’t wait to see Taika Waititi’s fingerprints on this big-ass Marvel flick!
Who do you think the former Galadriel/Katherine Hepburn/BLUE JASMINE is/should be playing? Sound off below.
