Clooney's SUBURBICON might star Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Josh Brolin!

George Clooney is “committed” to make the Coen Bros.-written SUBURBICON his next film as a director, and according to Deadline, he’s in talks with three A-list stars to head up his cast: Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Josh Brolin.

Obviously, Damon’s his boy from the OCEAN’S movies and MONUMENTS MEN, and Clooney just worked with Brolin on the Coens’ HAIL, CAESAR! Damon and Brolin also worked together on the Coens’ TRUE GRIT, though they only exchanged blows to the head if memory serves. Surprisingly, I don’t think Clooney and Moore have ever worked together onscreen, though the former exec produced FAR FROM HEAVEN via his Section Eight production company.

Regardless, all three perfectly evoke the kind of old-school Americana that Clooney and the Coens are going after, and have all played period roles to perfection in the past. They’ve all shown their dark side on film, to glorious results, and should fit snugly into the BLOOD SIMPLE-esque trappings of the narrative.

It’s possible that one or several of these guys will balk at the $20 million dollar budget and how quickly the project is coming together, but I’m thinking Clooney’s clout (and not inconsiderable charm) will get them to sign the dotted line and lend their star power to his latest directorial outing. Sure would be a hell of a cast.
